Nostalgia Street Car Class to carry Hedman name through the 2014 race season.
There’s a lot to like about the NMCA West’s Nostalgia Street Car Class. For starters, the class is open to 1982 and older door-slammers; racers not only get to line up to a .500 Pro Tree, the handicapped, index-style drag racing allows 15-second daily drivers a chance to beat 8-second dedicated race cars to the stripe. The broad appeal to racers played a pivotal negotiating role in a deal inked recently between Hedman Hedders and the NMCA, that turns the category into the Hedman Nostalgia Street Car Class, through the 2014 season. “Hedman Hedders Nostalgia Street Car is sure to be one of the NMCA WEST’s most popular classes as fans watch old school muscle cars put on a show, in search of a world championship,” said Charlie Harmon, President of the NMCA WEST Series. “Hedman Hedders is one of the most recognized brands in the performance aftermarket, and their products are a perfect fit for NMCA WEST racers and fans.” The four-stop West Coast series puts an emphasis on driver skill by prohibiting the use of electronic aids, such as, delay boxes and throttle stops, but allows for components like transmission brakes and power-adders. In this class, having the fastest car doesn’t always translate into having a winning car. “Any class where a small block, with no other modifications than a set of Hedman Hedders, can be competitive against a nitrous-fed, blown big block is as exciting for the spectators as it is for the person in the driver’s seat,” said Marc Lewis of Hedman Hedders. “To be associated with such a diverse group of competitors is a great fit for the broad lineup of products Hedman offers.” The NMCA West Street Car Series kicks off April 20, 2012 at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif. and finishes the season back in Fontana Oct. 19, 2012 making stops in Bakersfield, Calif. and Phoenix, AZ along the way.
