Fontana, CA –Alex Rogeo and her Liquid Glow Arrington MAHLE Champion Spark Plugs team fought rear suspension issues but managed to leave the Pacific Street Car Nationals Calvert Racing Summer Nationals still in first place in the championship points for the Street Muscle class and apparently still in second place in the Bracket-1 class. With only two races left in the 2014 series Alex is locked into a tight battle with Larry Pittenger, Nolan Brandt and just behind them Jason Hoorn in Street Muscle and she is only two rounds behind Dick Krieger in Bracket-1.
The team arrived on Friday for testing and discovered a broken rear suspension part that was not available for replacement. The crew made repairs but then struggled to find a setup that would work on a tricky track. The track was low on traction on Friday and only a little better on Saturday. The Auto Club Dragway crew worked late into the night on Saturday and the track was much improved for race day Sunday.
“We were able to go some rounds this weekend due to our team’s ability to adapt to and overcome difficult conditions,” Said Ms. Rogeo. “It’s really one of our best strengths, we can do more with less than most teams can—my crew chief joked that anyone can win with a perfect car, but it takes a great team to win rounds with a car that is really not working.”
“Alex raced Larry Pittenger again this race,” said Alex’s crew chief and MoparMax.com Editor-Publisher, Richard Kratz. “She likes racing the best in the class; it’s that kind of challenge that really gets her pumped up. She beat Larry at the last race, this time he beat her, so it’s 1-1 in head-to-head racing between them this year.”
Alex said, “It’s tough to lose and then have to watch your competition to see what happens. In this case, I got lucky and Nolan Brandt went out a round earlier then me and Pittenger only went one round further. So my lead has diminished, but I’m lucky and happy to be going into our summer racing break with the lead, I’ll take it.”
Alex and her team will be using the summer break to make a pretty big step in her car’s development program. Working with her marketing partners, the team will be making changes to the suspension and car to ensure that Alex is in a strong position when the series resumes at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California with the Mickey Thompson West Coast Shootout on September, 21st.
